The interview with Kath…

1. What’s your inspiration for pursuing beeswax wraps?

I wanted to reduce my plastic consumption and ultimately my impact on the environment. I started experimenting with cotton and beeswax around 6 years ago. I developed a formula which stopped the beeswax cracking and decided to put the wraps on the market. They did very well and a business started. Since then we’ve grown hugely and now employ 10 people. I am so pleased to be offering an alternative to plastic at a time when the questions are being asked.

2.   What’s your favourite pattern and why?

My favourite pattern is probably our new sardines design. It reminds me that the ocean is home to amazing diverse life and a natural resource of food but only if we keep it healthy and safe. Also, the design is a chic Scandinavian inspired print. We value the designs as highly as the functionality because it inspires people to use the wraps and ultimately making the switch from plastic.

3.   How do you reduce packaging and plastics when posting items?

That’s an area we are very proud of. Our packaging is recycled, carbon neutral paper. We will never use plastic! We use a paper tape with a solvent-free adhesive to seal our cardboard boxes. To protect the contents we use scrunched up paper to provide a buffer.

4.   What does the future hold for the business and new products?

We’re so excited to launch our new range of designs in February! We have four new prints and are carrying forward Tulips and Chevron from our previous range as they were so popular.

We are also looking at other products as a way to further reduce plastic consumption. We don’t want to ‘reinvent the wheel’ and so are looking for solutions which are not currently widespread.

And 2019 is about growth. We want to grow larger and expand our offering to more major online and high street names.
